A Trip to East Africa

Aug 03, 09 A Trip to East Africa

In April-May of 2009, I went on a trip to the Cornerstone works in Uganda and Rwanda in East Africa.  I was joined on the trip by my cousin, Pastor Daniel Kropf, a missionary in Malawi who previously worked for several months in Cornerstone Singapore. The following is a report of our activities there:

Rwanda:
We first met in Uganda, and on the following day we took an all day bus ride to Rwanda, where we ministered for four days in Zion Ministerial Institute.  The president of the school there is Pastor Theophile Kamanzi, a mature and respected Christian leader in the Rwandan community.  The day to day operation of the school is run by Pastor Henry Mukisa, who is actually a Ugandan who helps the school in Rwanda.

Pastor Daniel and I taught the book of Romans to about 24 students.  We were very impressed by the organization of the Bible school and the way things were done. Pastor Kamanzi and his team are doing an excellent job. The students were hungry and seemed to be learning very well too.

On Sunday I spoke at two different churches, and Pastor Daniel spoke in one as well.  The second church I spoke at was Pastor Kamazi’s.  He had about 300 people in attendance and we had an excellent service.

All in all, we had a great time in Rwanda.  The spiritual atmosphere in the school and churches are strong, their hospitality was excellent, it is clear that God is on the move.

Uganda:
After another all day bus ride back to Uganda on Monday, we ministered there for three days. Pastor Aloysius Ntege runs the Cornerstone work in Uganda, and much like Pastor Kamanzi, he did an excellent job taking care of us and the hospitality was excellent.

I spoke in United Christian Church on Tuesday and Wednesday evening, both nights there were about 200 people there.  Pastor Gerard Mukuye, who runs the Zion Ministerial Institute in Uganda, is one of the pastors at this church. The people were very hungry for God’s word and really responded to the messages.

Pastor Daniel and I spent our evenings and Thursday morning teaching at combined sessions of the Ugandan ZMI.  We had a good time doing that and the students seemed to be blessed, just as we were blessed!

Pastor Aloysius took us one morning to see the Cornerstone primary school in Busula that they were completing. The money Cornerstone sent was being used to complete the floors and the toilets, and praise God that in the months following we have seen the photos and the first phase of the building is now complete!  He also took us one afternoon to see the Cornerstone primary school in Ggaba.  It was a real blessing to see how God is using Cornerstone Singapore to impact the nations of Uganda and Rwanda!
