Serving God by volunteering
in the nations

The “Apprentice” programme (previously known as “Cornerstone Overseas Volunteer Programme”, COVP) is our medium term missions programme for mature church members to be sent out to serve in the nations for a period of three months to a year. This programme focuses on strengthening our global CGN churches and partners while engaging God’s missions call in the individual.

Through this programme, participants will experience what it feels like to serve full time on-the-field and help with the work needed on the ground. As the end-time harvest draws near, we need all hands on deck and encourage members with a missions call to join us in this programme.

It was a great opportunity to work with the locals…Despite the short time spent with the girls, I saw a number of breakthroughs in their lives. One of the girls at the Selah house used to have outbursts of anger. We would constantly pray over her, and finally, from a visit of an Indonesian team who did inner healing ministry, we saw such a change in her!

Despite the cultural differences, we learned to work well together. The missionary wisdom of, “Go low and go slow” was really useful here. I have learned a lot about myself while I was out on the field.  My favourite take-aways were the revelations of God while I was there. Some lessons can only be purchased with tears, but those lessons are often the most valuable.

When we first arrived in Uganda, our bible school students gave us an avocado seedling. Not knowing if it would survive under our care, we planted it, not knowing that it would be a prophetic encouragement to us. A year later before we left, it had grown to more than half our height, reminding us that as long as we were faithful to tend to it, God would make it grow. Several months after we returned, we were heartened and relieved to hear the fruit borne from the various ministries – bible school students who were serving the Lord, the healthcare partnership between Uganda and a hospital in Singapore growing continually, seeing the local people empowered to start their own training courses from what they have learned. When we persevere to do what God has called us to do faithfully, and press past the U-turns, He will make our journey worthwhile..
