Couriers 2011

1) If approval of my leave cannot be confirmed till much later, can I still sign up for the mission trips?

Yes, we encourage you to sign up first. We will allocate you to a trip of your choice and indicate your participation as tentative until you are able to confirm your participation on the trip. If you’re unable to take leave eventually, we still strongly encourage you to take part in the local trips that are held mostly on the weekends.

2) Can my friends and I be allocated to be in the same mission’s team?

We will try our best to allocate you and your friends to the same mission’s team. Either indicate on your registration form or simply tell those manning the registration booth so that we are able to take note of your request. Please note however, the eventual teaming will be left to the committee’s discretion.

3) If I do not have a cell, can I still sign up?

If you do not have a cell, you can still sign up. However, interviews will be conducted to ascertain your readiness to be on the field.

4) Can I register for two trips?

We do not discourage anyone from signing up for more than one overseas trip. However, if there is an overwhelming response for some of the trips, we’ll allocate those slots to applicants who only applied for a single trip. Having said that, do apply for more than one overseas trip if you’re keen. It is advisable to sign up for one overseas trip and a local trip if resources permits.

5) Can I bring my children along for a mission trip?

You may bring your children along for the mission trip but they will need to register separately. The minimum age for children going on the trip is 4 years old. The participation of children below the age of 4 will have to be subjected to approval from the committee.

6) Must I pay a deposit or the full amount when I register?

You will not need to pay any amount when you register. You will only need to pay when the teams have been finalized and the air tickets and accommodation are being settled.

7) Will Cornerstone Courier Services provide financial subsidies for the trips?

No financial subsidies will be provided except to students who demonstrate financial difficulties. This will be subjected to the committee’s discretion, and financial subsidy will be given on a case by case basis.

8) When will I know the outcome of my application?

You will be informed of the success of your application by the 1st/2nd week of June.

9) This is my first mission trip, I am unsure if I will be sufficiently prepared for it?

Do not worry about any inadequacy you might possibly face on the trip. We will be having corporate training sessions for everyone going for the trips. Your individual teams and countries will also have meetings to prepare you for the trips as the culture and spiritual needs of the countries varies.

10) Must I attend all the trainings and prayer meetings?

Attendance for all trainings is compulsory except for valid reasons which should be emailed to missions@cscc.org.sg prior to the commencement of the meetings. Attendance for prayer meetings is not compulsory but strongly encouraged and it will be open to the whole church.

11) What will the cost stated in the book cover?

The cost stated in the book covers accommodation and airfare only. However, the cost listed in the book serves as a gauge only and the actual cost might be slightly higher or lower. It does not include other expenses such as food and shopping. Your team leader will brief you further on how much to bring as it differs from country to country.

12) What kind of accommodation will we have on the trips?

For most of the trips, the accommodation will be either a three-star hotel or a service apartment.

13) What will we be doing on the trips?

The theme for this year’s Couriers is “Building with you”. Basically, the theme is a continuation of last year’s thrust in partnering with our Cornerstone churches and be a blessing through good works, giving and ministering in the Churches. The main difference this year is that we are focusing on a particular ministry of our partnering churches, and we’ll be sending 2-3 teams in different times of the months between July-Dec, to build on the particular ministry of our host church. Each subsequent trip to a particular country is built upon the one before. There will be a lot of activities centered on good works – giving out food packages and clothes, Christmas parties and events, visiting the orphanages/prisons – and evangelistic outreaches, as well as opportunities for ministering in various churches.

14) What if I have questions that are not listed here?

You are email all questions and feedback to missions@cscc.org.sg, and we’ll return to you shortly.

Blessings of ‘Little Things’

Latest updates from Alicia Chua, our OVP missionary to Surabaya, as she continues to share the challenges and joy of mission work..   Greetings from Surabaya once again, everyone! As you can probably tell, I am back in Indonesia again after my short break back home over Chinese New Year. Although my time at home was wonderful and I missed home a lot, I also have to say that it also feels good to be back here in Surabaya.   Although I only planned to stay for a total of three months initially, after my first two months here, I...

ROWAN – Laying the groundwork through Education

To know more about ROWAN, visit www.loverowan.com “Job 36:12    But if they do not obey, They shall perish by the sword,  And they shall die without knowledge.” I remember the times as a child, I really dislike studying  and doing school homework. This is because I valued my playing time with my friends and neighbors much more. So in order to drive me to my books, my mum would use various ‘traditional ways of discipline’, like caning’ (which many parents count it as...

To know more about ROWAN, visit www.loverowan.com Some of us might remember Kelsey Hargadine, whom we prayed for during one of our main services in 2010, before she returned to Uganda to continue her work with Rural Orphans Widows AIDS Network (ROWAN). Ever since, Cornerstone Community Church Singapore has been partnering with ROWAN through providing monthly missions support till today. Through our support, ROWAN has managed to acquire 1 outside gathering tent, and 2 large vans for transportation among staff, community members, interns and...

Missions, The Way To Go

Yesterday was the day when Paul and Jasmine left for Uganda for a year. I, together with many of their dear friends and family, went to see them off at the airport. It was a moment of both sadness and joy for us – sadness because we’ll be missing the presence of this precious couple here in church, joyful because we’re excited for the great leap of faith they are taking into the destiny that God has for them, which we know that the Lord will never fail but will prosper them on all sides. Having said, the challenges ahead...

Simple joy..

Here’s the latest updates from Overseas Volunteer Program (OVP) missionary, Alicia, who has been serving in Pondok Hayat Orphanage in Surabaya since 23 Nov last year Hello once again, everyone! Here is my latest post on my adventures in Surabaya. Not many new things have happened since my last post, so this will probably be quite a short one. First of all, school has started again here, and I am back to my usual schedule of helping out at the Living Stones and Pelita Permai Schools, as well as helping the children at Simo with their...

OVP Alicia: The end and beginning of another exciting year..

Greetings once again from Surabaya, everyone! Here is my third post about my time here in Indonesia. At the time of typing, Christmas passed a week ago and it is already New Year’s Day. So, Happy New Year everyone! Although, by the time you read this, New Year’s Day would probably have passed a while ago. Time really flies, doesn’t it? After spending almost six weeks here in Indonesia, I have to say that I am getting more and more used to life here every day. Of course, that is to be expected! Though some things are still strange and...
